A Letter from the Democratic Central Committees of Maryland's First Congressional District
The country has spoken: Joe Biden is the duly elected President of the United States. Voters across the political spectrum elected a leader capable of uniting the nation after four long and divisive years. Yet how can there be unity if insurrection is permitted without consequences? It is not divisive to call for acts of insurrection to be properly investigated and for the agitators to be fully prosecuted. Our nation is a Republic – if we can keep it; there are no constitutional protections for insurrection.
The Attempted Insurrection and Domestic Terror Attack of January 6, 2021
Yesterday, we witnessed an armed mob attempt a coup d’etat on live television that resulted in the death of one domestic terrorist and the ransacking of our Capitol for the first time since the British invaded in 1814. This was not a surprising conclusion to the violent, divisive, and dangerous past four years of President Trump’s tenure, but it was certainly unprecedented and undeniably unacceptable.
Biden Victory in Talbot
We made history in Talbot County. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have officially become the first Democratic presidential ticket to win in Talbot County, MD since 1964! We are absolutely thrilled by the progress we have made together over the past few years.
Home Stretch, Talbot!
Your dedicated efforts throughout these difficult times has been nothing short of heroic. From Talbot's phonebankers leading the state by the numbers (500+ calls made last night alone!) to the poll watchers serving on the front lines of our democracy, you are the heartbeat of the Democratic Party.
Party Statement on the Repeated Destruction & Theft of Democratic Campaign Signs
“When they go low, we go high.” We do not respond to violence with violence; we do not answer hate with hate. If your sign is destroyed, come to our Democratic Headquarters and get two more. Do not retaliate, always report lawlessness to local law enforcement. Most importantly, do not let them take away your voice; do not let them take away your democracy. Stay strong and stay safe as we work to take back our country on November 3. They can steal your sign, but they cannot steal your vote.
The Confederate Monument in Talbot
As equity, justice, and opportunity for all are the guiding principles of the Talbot County Democratic Party, we join the chorus of Talbot County citizens and organizations calling for the removal of the ‘Talbot Boys’ Confederate statue from the Courthouse grounds.
