Biden Victory in Talbot
Statement from the Chair
November 13, 2020
Supporters,
We made history in Talbot County. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have officially become the first Democratic presidential ticket to win in Talbot County, MD since 1964! We are absolutely thrilled by the progress we have made together over the past few years.

Here are a few fast facts for you:
We closed a 1,500 voter registration gap to under 1,000 in less than one year. Additionally, Talbot Democrats hit 70% turnout by November 2, the day before Election Day. A 70% turn-out before Election Day is unprecedented. This year, we also distributed a record number of over 1,000 campaign signs out of our headquarters and fielded 22 highway signs across Talbot!
We have had over 15,000 unique visitors (almost 20,000 total visits!) to our website since August and we have 960 'likes' and over 1,000 followers on our Facebook page - compared to Talbot GOP's 554 likes! This growth and expanding reach is due to the generous support you all have provided in sustaining our year round operations.
By a conservative estimate, over 220 volunteers carried out political operations for the Talbot County Democratic Party over the entire season, with over half of those volunteers working on multiple projects for the election. We had over 40 phonebankers alone (the most we have ever had) dialing into Talbot County, MD's 1st Congressional District, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Arizona. Our phonebankers are already dialing into Georgia to support Democratic runoff election efforts in Georgia! Join this effort!
One of our top priorities, a digital and print messaging campaign to pass ballot questions B, C, and D, was also very successful. While a number of local organizations and groups stepped up or were created to support this initiative, I believe Talbot Dems went above and beyond in dedicating time and resources towards this substantial voter education campaign. We hope to use this collaboration to push for additional ways to build bridges with local public emergency, first responder, and law enforcement groups.
The voters brought home this win, but you deserve to know who led the efforts that turned the tide in Talbot. I cannot name all 220+ volunteers here, but Talbot Dems Vice Chair Naomi Hyman and our Field Director Judy Wixted took two years to develop the roadmap to success we needed through their field and data operations. Mary Helen Gillen, Co-Chair of Roots to Results, recruited, and organized our new Community Captains in Talbot to deepen our reach. Oxford Community Captain Ron Walker led the unforgiving, never-ending highway sign installation and repair efforts. Talbot Dems Secretary Nancy Andrew and Community Captain Michele Waxman Johnson were leaders in the Maryland Women for Biden Campaign and Phil Foster headed up the Eastern Shore for Biden effort. Talbot Democratic Women's Club President Joyce Scharch organized socially-distanced Biden-Harris sign wavings on Rt. 50 while Talbot Democratic Forum President Mickey Terrone promoted our messages and organized the deployment of campaign signs at our voting centers. Of course, I cannot forget to thank our MD Democratic Party leaders Yvette Lewis and Justin Butler.
Lastly, I have to thank my predecessor, Scott Kane, who continues to serve and advise on the central committee. Scott has put everything he has and more into this County and our community. If you are happy we have Pete Lesher on County Council, thank Scott; if you are happy we have a dedicated MD Dems staffer for the Eastern Shore, thank Scott; if you are happy we have a full-time office for organizing in Talbot, thank Scott.
A movement is only successful with dedicated supporters and volunteers. This is a movement - we are building a strong Democratic community in Talbot County. Our success today is sweetened because we accomplished this victory together.
Thank you for everything. We are building something great together... and we're only just getting started!
In Solidarity,
Patrick Firth
