Andrew Harris: An Example of an Incompetent Congressman
While our nation is dealing with a gruesome pandemic and economic uncertainty, our representative in the House spends his energy misrepresenting our Congress's gun control decisions.
On Covid, the only thing he could propose was to delay the second vaccine dose, a foolish and ridiculous position for a doctor that is supposed to know what the current administration is doing to ensure vaccines for all. And to fuel economic uncertainty, Harris opposed the rescue plan supported and needed by most Americans because of "his concerns" with the deficit, which he so evidently ignored when approving tax cuts for the wealthier.
Last week, to distract and confuse us, he published an article with frivolous misrepresentations on what was approved by the House, trying to appear as a second amendment's champion. Before commenting on his writing, let me straighten out: I, like the immense majority of democrats in the Eastern Shore, bear arms and strongly support the Second Amendment, but in times where domestic terrorism is a significant threat, when rioters with nazi tee shirts and confederate flags invade and defecate in the corridors of Congress, and crazy Representatives try to bring guns to the floor of the House to bully their peers, we need gun control.
Reading Harris's article, one gets the impression that the new laws' purpose is to hinder law-abiding citizens' ability to lend guns to their buddies, and if you doubt the piece is so shallow, please read it. Actually, the law's primary purpose is to increase the time for FBI gun checks from 3 to 10 days, which is perfectly understandable since more than 100 million people are buying guns, and the FBI can't do all critical reviews in three days. For someone who is buying guns for hunting or protection, the difference between three and ten days is irrelevant. Still, an inappropriate background check for a tiny time limit could put weapons in the hands of militia members willing to kidnap a Michigan governor.
As a representative of the Eastern Shore, Andrew Harris should better use his time trying to improve the lives of rural and aquaculture producers who faithfully voted for him and to whom he has done absolutely nothing.
